Last 16 March the facilities of the Andalusian Aerospace Technology Park, Aeropolis, hosted the Aero-Robot Conference organised by the Spanish Association of Robotics and Automation of Production Technologies (AER-ATP) with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Science and Technology and the collaboration of the Advanced Centre for Aerospace Technologies (FADA-CATEC), Aeropolis, the Andalusian Agency for Innovation and Development (IDEA) and the Hélice Foundation.

The interest in this field is evident from the fact that more than 150 representatives from the leading aeronautical companies in Andalusia and Spain attended this event and followed the presentations made with great interest. The speakers included renowned experts in the field of robotics and automation in the aeronautical and aerospace industry. The conference was inaugurated by the Director-General of FADA-CATEC, Juan Pedro Vela; the Chairman of AER-ATP, Juan Luis Elorriaga; and the manager of Aeropolis, Joaquín Rodríguez.

During his presentation, Juan Pedro Vela highlighted the major possibilities offered by the world of robotics for the aeronautical and aerospace sector, particularly in terms of its application to the field of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), while the manager of Aeropolis emphasised the potential which this Technology Park has for the arrival of new companies and investments which will enable it to continue developing the Andalusian aeronautical industry.

Meanwhile, the President of AERATP highlighted that the aeronautical and aerospace sector is highly strategic for the future of robotics, and Andalusia is a very competitive sector which can incorporate new processes related with industrial robotics which can signify important advances in the field of aerostructures, composites and UAVs. In the afternoon session various papers were presented explaining the evolution of robotics in the aeronautical sector and the possibility of financial assistance for these projects from the Andalusian Authorities.

The Conference was closed by the Chairman of AER-ATP, Juan Luis Elorriaga, and the Director of the Hélice Foundation, Manuel Cruz, who thanked the participants for their attendance and collaboration.
